Evening primroses, Oenothera, are a group of annuals, biennials and perennials, native to North and South America. They’re so-called because the flowers of many species open in the evenings to attract pollinators that are specialised to collecting pollen from them. Many evening primroses have richly scented flowers.
Oenothera speciosa ‘Siskiyou’ is a sprawling plant producing masses of pale pink flowers throughout spring, summer and often into autumn. The blooms of Oenothera speciosa ‘Siskiyou’ are open during the day to attract day-flying pollinators. It’s a good choice for ground cover.
For best results, grow Oenothera speciosa ‘Siskiyou’ in full sun or partial shade in moist, well-drained soil. Cut it back as it begins to lose steam to produce a new flush of foliage and flowers. Can vigorously spread if growing in favourable conditions.
